I headed home early from work with the intent of packing for my weekend of camping fun with the scouts. But I had a few minutes of time so decided to stop by Owens Creek for a quick cast or two. I knew that brown trout has recently been stocked so I tied on a rapala ultra finesse sinking brown trout lure. On the second cast I hit pay dirt! I measured and weight the brown trout and she was 17 inches and 2.5 lbs. Not the biggest brown I have pulled out of Owens Creek but definitely a nice specimen.

This past weekend I headed down to Nanjemoy for a Boy Scout function at Lions Club Merrick. Knowing that it was located on the banks of the Potomac, and having never caught a blue catfish I decided to take my rod and reel along for the ride. Friday night was slow and we only ended up catching one bluecat about 28 inches in length. Being conservation minded it was quickly dispatched and filleted. Saturday afternoon saw us reel in two nice size flatheads (not pictured) which added to the fillet pile. Saturday night we managed to catch a bluecat measuring approximately 18 inches then shortly after I caught another, this one was tiny at about 12 inches. During the entire weekend we used cut bait, shrimp and earth worms. All in all we had a great time fishing and doing our part to improve the Potomac fishery. *DNR note-the catfish pictures in this log entry show blue catfish. The angler also mentions flathead catfish, but we can not verify that catch because there is no photo of a flathead catfish included.
