I was fishing out of an Ocean Kayak Prowler Trident 11. I was fishing at the mouth of the Susquehanna River right where it meets up with the flats at the top of the Chesapeake Bay (a well-known hot spot for prespawn Stripers in the spring). I had 2 rods, spooled with 30lb braided fireline with three oz. of lead to keep it still in the swift current. That connected to a size 8 three way swivel, and then 2 18" snelled hooks with 20lb berkley florocarbon leaders. The 4 hooks were all size 7/0 lazer sharp octopus style circle hooks. I used chunks of fresh herring the size of my fist and chummed with the rest. I missed 4 other bites throughout the 4 hours I was fishing but managed to land this huge prespawn female. It took me 6 minutes to move her 25 feet and she spun the boat multiple times. She measured 45" and was around 33lb (Based on prediction by a capt. in a boat near me). I released her unharmed both because I can't keep stripers in that area of the bay until after May 16th and because I wanted her to spawn. It's gonna be a great season!
