Type: Chesapeake
Region: Southern
Location: Chesapeake Bay
I caught this fish near the sea wall on NAS PAX. I think it may be a young red drum but am not sure.
DNR response: Phil, we get this question about once a year - You caught a Northern kingfish. Kingfish are common along our coast during warm months and are frequent visitors to our portion of the bay, typically late summer. Kingfih enter the Chesapeake Bay in the spring and leave in the fall for wintering grounds on the continental shelf.
