I fished a Carroll County pond recently and caught this 31 inch , 14 pound channel catfish while bass fishing. I was using a #5 Mepps Aglia in muddy water hoping to use the lure's heavy vibrations to trigger bass strikes. I did manage 9 bass from 12 to 15 inches. However, this bruiser cattie crushed the big spinner and gave me a terrific battle. This is my new PR on channels, but I have indeed taken them on a variety of lures over the years from time to time. Anglers should keep in mind that cats of these proportions are apex predators and will even take a large topwater lure on occasion.
