Hunting Creek Snakehead

Type: Nontidal
Region: Southern
Location: Hunting Creek

Hello from southern Maryland. Here in Calvert County, school is starting, so I took some time to wet a line for a little while. Just after lunchtime I drove up to Hunting Creek, just across from the bowling alley along Route 4. I was casting a 1/8 oz jig with a black and yellow 1 & 1/2 grub from Zoom. On one cast right along the shoreline it got nailed by something which tore off the tail. I put another grub on and made another cast and wham! Originally I thought it was a pickerel but as I brought it up I was completely surprised. This is the first snakehead I've ever caught. I dispatched it as humanely as I could. I then made a few more casts and caught a couple of largemouth. They were both released; the bass back into the creek and the snakehead into the sauce pan. Tight lines!!
