Gunpowder Survey

Type: Nontidal
Region: North Central
Location: Gunpowder River

Freshwater Fisheries Central Region recently completed the annual Gunpowder Falls Tailwater electrofishing survey with help from Western Region II, Eastern Region, Brook Trout Program staff, and the Maryland Biological Stream Survey crew. Results show that the wild brown trout population continues to be robust with excellent numbers of young trout and adults up to 22 inches.

Pictured:

  • 22 inch 3+ pound brown trout.
  • The same tiger trout was collected in 2015 and again in 2016. This fish grew from 8" to 10" during the course of the year.
  • This brown trout's meal was interrupted by the electrofishing survey.
  • Citation size brown trout being released back into the water.
  • Fat brown trout on the measuring board. A work up box is full of anesthetized fish in the background.
