On Saturday, Oct. 29th my son(Tony) and I decided to go out around 8:00 AM, before the winds came. We launched from Rocky Point and went out to Memorial Stadium Reef off Tolchester Beach. There, we were drifting the edges starting around 8:30 in the morning. Our 1st drift, we let go for about 20 minutes until we were ready to move and do another drift. That's when my drag started to peel, 15 minutes later I landed a very nice 31 inch Rock fish at 10.7 lbs. This Bass was caught on a 1/2 oz jig head with a 5 inch chartreuse swim bait and 15lb braided PowerPro line with medium action rods. (Same rod and Reel combo I use for Bass Fishing.)
We decided to do another drift across the same area and this time we were in for a bigger surprise. With 4 rods out, 2 with swim baits and two with silver jigs, three of the rods started singing that lovely tune of a "FISH ON". We managed to land all three, 2 were approx 27 inches and the third just over 21 inches. We kept 2 and decided to see if we could do better than the 21 incher that we released. For the next hour and a half we continued to catch keepers over 20 inches, but short of the 24 inch mark that we had set as our goal. Around 11:00 am, with the wind starting to pick up, we were ready to call it a day when my son was able to catch another good one at 28 inches. My son's comment "I let my dad out-fish me today with the only one over 30" since it was his 65th birthday this week. Next time I might not be so generous."
PS. There were very few birds around and only 2 other boats around all morning. One was anchored and the other trolling. We didn't see any hookups on either boat.
