Now is a good time of year to cash in on the exciting blue catfish opportunities on the tidal Potomac. My friend, Alvie Sickle, and I fished there just before Thanksgiving and we totaled 24 catfish, ranging from 5 to 33 pounds, caught mostly on cut sunfish. Good action can be had on smaller catfish using 10 to 15 pound test outfits and 4/0 circle hooks baited with hotdog chunks, as there is a huge population of 4 to 12 pound cats currently in the system and willing to bite and offer great light tackle sport and table fare.
