Choptank Catfish

Type: Nontidal
Region: Eastern
Location: Denton, Md, Choptank River

Well, me and my friend George (the guy on the right in the photo) were itching to catch a catfish this year but we havent been having much luck, til now. We tried catfish fishing at Red Bridges and Martinak several times but we didnt catch anything so George suggested going under the business 404 bridge in Denton on the other side of the river across from the park. He said he went there once with his dad and he caught a lot of catfish but he also said there was a lot of snags there. I said well go there but were going to go fishing on the park side because it was nicer and didnt have too many snags but when we got to the park it was crowded so we decided to go to the other side of the river like George suggested. We got all set up and in about 10 minutes on my second cast, I caught a 22 inch, 5 lb Channel cat. It fought pretty hard and I thought my line was going to snap but I was able to reel him in. I dont go catfishing a lot but that was the biggest catfish Ive caught. That was the only fish we caught that day and we probably got snagged 6 times between the two of us but hey, it was worth it.
