Jayden Gets His Medal

Type: Nontidal
Region: Central
Location: Carroll County pond

My 3rd year fishing this Rodeo. I am no longer a “greenhorn” 6 year old rookie. I am almost 9 now. I have landed many good fish since that first tournament. This might be my year, finishing 2nd the past 2 years. I was looking to upgrade my hardware from silver to gold. It was raining on and off, but the fish do not care. They were eating early and often. Except the trout were not that active. The big ones needed a little more time to get hungry. They do not get to be big by accident. I stayed in 2nd and 3rd place most of the day with a nice 9 inch bluegill and then a 10 inch bass. Then it happened, but not what you think. It did not happen for me but the girl next to me, who was all but giving up, nails a big bass from 2 feet from the bank. She took over first place. I caught fish number 8 and then 9. I went to a double rig and in the last 10 minutes, FISH ON! It is a big fight since I was out in the middle deep on the bottom. The fish gets hung up in the weeds, but I went in after him. Mud flying, I lip grabbed him and pulled him up. WOW, he was… much smaller than the fight. He was another 10 inch bass. I end up out of the top 3. At the awards, the lady running the event tells me not to leave? They call me up for most fish caught for the day and best dressed fisherman. I got a nice medal. The Union Mills Lion Club was awesome. Thanks and see you next year!
