Smallmouth Success!

I've read about smallmouth bass hot spots up around the Susquehanna River and I even tried a few, like the western shore of Conowingo Reservoir, the mouths of Broad Creek and Octoraro Creek, with no success. So I was surprised and thrilled when I hooked this 14-inch tail-walking brute right below the dam on my first trip of the season in search of shad on May 24th. A fellow angler told me the shad run was almost over, since I caught zero shad. But this smallie that went for my tiny shad spoon was one of the biggest I've caught in the state of Maryland.
