I caught a 27", 7lb striped bass just south of the Bay Bridge on July 4th around 10:30am. I was using a 4 oz white bucktail with an eel tail, trolling north at about 3.5 mph. I used a heavy Kmart pole and Penn Senator reel from the 70's that my Grandfather used for trolling bluefish off the coast of Cape May NJ back in the 70's and 80's. I cleaned it up and refurbished the reel hoping to casually troll while we motored between destinations. Boy was I rewarded! This is my first striper, and the biggest fish I've ever caught. I'm just getting back into fishing a couple of decades after deep sea fishing with my Dad and Grandfather as a child. Thanks to the weekly fishing report I was able to get the info I needed to successfully make the catch!
