Gunpowder River Largemouth Bass

Type: Nontidal
Region: Central
Location: Gunpowder River

I caught this 2.8 pound bass in the Gunpowder River on a small Rapala jerk bait. Believe it or not, this is the biggest bass I've caught all year in the Gunpowder and I fish there almost daily. DNR Response: The fishery on Gunpowder River has changed as the watershed became more urbanized over time. The past couple of years have dealt a couple of fish kills in the area. We have been stocking both Middle and Gunpowder rivers. We will be stocking it again later this month in partnership with Wheelabrator Technologies, Inc. In some areas, like Middle River, I've heard some positive feedback indicating an improvement in the fishery. I'm glad to see the angler caught a 2.8 pound fish, but our surveys also reinforce the angler's comment that the fishery is not that great. I hope that some of our efforts aimed at watershed management and stocking will help improve the fishery in the future.
