I was crabbing on Saturday 10/14/17 on the Rhode River and found success at 8-10ft of water in the upper Rhode River. To my surprise, I saw only large to jumbo male crabs. I ran two trot lines using chicken necks. The water clarity was high and it was tough to keep the crabs on without them letting go. Netting proved to be difficult, but my friend and I used team work to end up with a bushel of nice heavy fat crabs. It was the best tasting and weight of the year.
Side note: I heard a lot of shots after ducks and yesterday the ducks were flying everywhere. Its a hard time of year to decide what outdoor activity to participate in, bow hunting, rock fishing, crabbing or ducks but I must say crabbing was the best choice because its almost over for the year.
Many thanks for posting good information!
