Sunday was the start of the fall open season for black sea bass. I went fishing with my friend Dustin, his family and friend. We went about 20 miles offshore.
On the first drift, Dustin and I each caught a 16 inch sea bass. We looked at each other and smiled because we knew this was going to be a special day.
We did small drifts with squid, alby, and bluefish strips for bait. Every drift we had sea bass. The larger ones were up to 18.5 inches. We put on some small jigs and twister tails with the fish strips and caught flounder up to 23.5 inches. It was some of the best sea bass fishing as far as the quality of the fish I have ever experienced.
As you can see it took all five of us to hold the stringer up! Beautiful day, wonderful fishing! (great job MD DNR!), and great people. We were truly blessed. Black sea bass fishing will remain open through December 31.
