Fly Fishing Saint Marys Lake

Type: Nontidal
Region: Southern
Location: Saint Marys Lake

I went fishing at Saint Marys Lake (a 250 acre Lake which is part of the Saint Marys River watershed and park system) on Nov. 17 which proved to be a fun half day.

I walked the lake with fly rod in hand and although the day was windy, I found fish on the discharge side of the dam. Casting dry flys, woolly buggers and a lefties deceiver (proving you can cast salt water flys in freshwater for largemouth bass) I was able to land 9 largemouth bass and numerous bluegill.

The bluegill were rising for the drys and and taking the woolly bugger and the bass were taking the woolly bugger and deceiver. I did try to cast along the lake's shoreline but without success due to the winds. But you may have success if you cast in sheltered coves via kayaking or small boat.
