The last two days I fished Calvert Cliffs and Hutchins Pond (s) in Calvert County.
On Wednesday I went over to Calvert Cliffs State Park where there's a 1.5 acre pond. I went there looking for some largemouth bass. But, to my surprise, I caught two holdover rainbow trout from the October stocking. I caught the trout on a two inch Rapala original floating lure, silver in color.
This pond is extremely small, so any action in the water disrupts the entire pond. I have found that the best times to fish are weekdays when you may have the entire pond to yourself. There are also trails and a two mile hike will take you to the shores of the bay if you are up to some fossil hunting along the shoreline. Fun stuff!
On Thursday I went out early to Hutchins Pond, a 2.5 acre pond, located in Owens Md. There I caught and released a boat load of rainbow trout (limit of five trout if you're keeping them). The state stocked the pond on 1/24/18 with 500 trout. There were numerous other fishermen that came and went with their limits this morning. The trout look healthier than the October stocking too. One fisherman took a very nice brown trout while I was there.
I caught my trout using a fly rod and beadhead fly, most others were using a variety of lures and bait. The best were small Mepps inline spinners and small Daredevil spoons.
