I had a good season with a big largemouth bass last summer, and I'm looking forward to another good season. Last July (7/17/2017), I caught a 5.1 pound largemouth bass on Kent Island at a secret location. I was fly fishing for sunfish with a size 17 Copper Jon and I had a nice sunfish on. I pulled him out of the water, and then decided to use the sunfish as bait and slowly reel it in with a slow retrieve. I was hoping that a big bass will eat him. Good thing I did, because a bass gobbled him up almost immediately. I let the bass eat the sunfish and then I slowly dragged him in. After 20 minutes of fighting on my 5 weight fly rod, I went into the water and pulled him out. I looked in his mouth and saw the little teeny fly had hooked him right in a hard spot in his mouth. This was a very lucky hook set! I thought it was a magic experience, and that was the day I caught my big bass, on a sunfish and my 5 weight fly rod.
