A Happy Sunday at St. Mary's Lake

Type: Nontidal
Region: Southern
Location: St. Mary's Lake

I went out fishing Sunday, 3/18 at St. Marys Lake. I wasn't really targeting any species. Water temps ranged from 44 degrees (main body of the lake) to 47 degrees in the water that was about 2 and a half feet (2.5 ft) or less in depth. The water in the lake was slightly cloudy.

I fished for approximately 4 hours. The chain pickerel were really active. I caught five on swim baits and square bill plugs. I also caught a largemouth bass. I saw one other pickerel caught by another angler. I caught all my fish in four to five feet of water.

I couldnt get the fish in the deep water to bite. I assume they are crappie and bass that havent migrated up to shallower water yet. Most fish are suspended at 10 feet in 14-20 foot of water. Im guessing that the fish are waiting for warm weather.
