I went up to owen's and friend's creek on wednesday 5/11/2011 to take advantage of the stocked rainbow trout. I first tried owen's creek in the morning but found out that only the lower creek is open to fishing since MD 550 is closed above thurmont and only open to people who live there. I fished lower owen's from route 15 to roddy road bridge. The deep pool at roddy road bridge has a few smallmouth bass. Had a few nibbles from holdover trout but did not see any large numbers of fish. Several other anglers were there and said the place should be loaded with fish. Got back on 15 and took the detour MD77 to friend's creek. That creek was stocked and most of the fish were in the deeper pools. The large pool with the big rock was loaded with trout and I had good luck with streamers drifted in front of the fish eventually filling my limit even though I lost several trout just as I tried to land them. Other anglers there fishing power bait did not have as much luck. Small spoons, spinners, streamers worked best. The pool also has some larger 15" trout but these fish would not take anything. There should still be some holdover trout left. I wonder if owen's creek will be stocked at a later time or maybe friend's creek will receive an additional stocking since MD 550 is closed. I caught some pretty fish and had a good dinner that night. Tight lines,
