Spring Trout Fishing

Type: Nontidal
Region:
Location:

The trout season "opening day" was last Saturday and many excited anglers hit the streams to enjoy a beautiful day of trout fishing. Streams were generally in great shape with good flows. I recently fished one of western Maryland's wild trout streams and had a great time catching stream-bred brown trout. Its been an unusually cold spring, but insects are beginning to hatch on warm afternoons. Winter stoneflies, small blue winged olives and midges were hatching during my recent trip. Most fish were taken using size #18 nymphs fished deep in slower pools and runs.
