Youghiogheny River Catch and Return Trout Fishing Area

I had the pleasure to fish with Dan Rodricks, his son Nick, and Wally Vait this past Saturday in the Youghiogheny River Catch and Return Trout Fishing Area. River conditions were ideal and there were plenty of caddis in the air, but rising fish were sparse. While having a stream-side lunch, Wally spotted a good rise on the far bank. Nick waded across the river and showed us how its done, landing a gorgeous trophy rainbow trout on an elk-hair caddis. We headed upstream after lunch and found better fishing, as we all caught or hooked into some nice fish. I landed two good rainbows using an orange bead-head emerger caddis. Local angler Neil Jacobs sent me some pictures of some trophy trout he caught this past weekend in the Yough as well, including the 18 inch brown trout pictured below.
