Happy Wednesday! I went to St. Mary's River Watershed State Park yesterday for some kayak fishing in St. Mary's Lake. The water surface temps were 75/77 degrees and the water was fairly clear, but high due to the rain.
I caught fish off of points and weed bed drop offs of 4 1/2 feet to 5 1/2 to 6 feet and in standing timber in 9 feet of water. My catch: 9 largemouth, 3 pickerel, 2 yellow perch and 1 crappie. Some were caught on swim baits but most on a bluegill colored square bait with rattle.
Then I drove down to Point Lookout to see if I could get some rockfish to bite. I caught one rockfish on a chartreuse vertical spoon, off of the pier. Catch and release is the best practice, keep only what you will eat and remember to always release undersized fish. Lets all do our part to save our fisheries.
