Summer Rockfish

Type: Tidal
Region: Southern
Location: where Mill Creek and Back Creek join

I thought that I would take advantage of the nice weather and do some striped bass fishing. At the end of Dowell Rd, near my home, is a pier where Mill Creek and Back Creek come together.

I dont know the water temperature was, but there was: rain, wind and then hard rain. At any rate, I caught 17 rock, missed a few too. The majority were 14-15 (a few smaller). But there were three keepers, two at 19 1/2 and one at 24 1/2. I released all the fish.

The water depth in the area was between 6 feet and 9 feet (tide was going slack and then coming in). I fished at 4-4 1/2 using a slow steady retrieve. 1 oz skirted jig with a 3.5 white swim bait. Best bites were when the rain or wind picked up an blew towards the shoreline.
