I fished in the early morning on Labor Day until about noon with my friend Tom. We had quite a surprise when I caught a big rainbow trout! Usually I catch smallmouth and occasionally pumpkinseed or bluegill in this area. Today was different, I caught a couple of nice walleyes too, only a single smallmouth of average size. All fish were caught with a Beetle Spin (white body). We tried a bunch of other lures, but 1/4 ounce Beetle seemed to be the preferred brunch. The water is significantly cooler and higher than normal this time of year, but we were still surprised to catch a big rainbow this far south. The rainbow seemed healthy and strong so we worked it for a while in the current for release and the fish swam away nicely.
