Two Spotted Seatrout From the Severn

Type: Tidal
Region: Central
Location: Herald Harbor Pier, Severn River

Erik Zlokovitz from Maryland DNR Fishing and Boating services had reported to me that he caught a small spotted sea trout on a Mister Twister tail grub and lead jighead in Chase Creek, Severn River, about two years ago. Well, over the weekend, my son Chris caught two of these off our pier in Herald Harbor. These are the first spotted sea trout I've ever seen in the Severn.

DNR note: In the last 2-3 years we have documented several small spotted sea trout (Cynoscion nebulosus) also known as speckled trout, in the Severn and South Rivers. Most were caught on small plastics on jig heads, by kayak or shore anglers. These fish are typically caught between August and October, when water temp and salinity are both elevated.
