On Dec. 3, I intended to fish St. Marys Lake, but I never made it over there. I also wanted to fish Unicorn Lake out of my kayak, but the winds were to be in the upper teens so I stayed away.
The wind was calmer here and the air temperature was warmer so, I loaded up the kayak and gear. I remembered a friend of mine said he had a small pond on his property in St. Mary's county that had some pickerel in it.
So I texted him to see if I could take a cast or two and he said sure. He let me know the pond was slated to be dredged to deepen it and they would be taking the trees off the shoreline the following day.
I drove over there and past the pond thinking it was pretty small and couldn't help feeling a little disappointed. However, once I took a few casts and after catching 8 largemouth bass and 3 pickerel, it turned out to be fun. I also got one crappie from his friend's pond also. I caught all fish on a 1/4 oz jig with a 4 swim-tail and all were released.
