I took a day on the week before Christmas to do some pickerel fishing at Smithville Lake, on the Eastern Shore. I caught four pickerel and five largemouth bass with a shad colored rattle trap and blue gray 1/4oz paddle tail jig.

A helpful note for those launching a boat or kayak when you�re out fishing: if I feel that I am the first person launching on a body of water for the day I will take a cast from the boat ramp/dock. I caught my first pickerel on Smithville Lake doing just that!
