My daughter and I were at Evitts Creek (12/27/18) and caught a dandy trout. Upon some Further investigation, I believe we caught a tiger trout. This is the first tiger trout I've seen. Could I be wrong and this is just an oddly marked brown trout?
DNR ANSWER: "The tiger trout is a hybrid cross of brook trout and brown trout. Although natural hybrids have been documented in Maryland and elsewhere where wild populations of the two species overlap, most tiger trout hybrids are produced in a hatchery. The large fish in the photos does have the characteristics of a hatchery produced tiger trout. It is unclear where this fish originated from as Maryland, and to my knowledge, the surrounding states do not stock tiger trout in the Potomac watershed.
