Joey Harding was fishing with his wife Tanya (no relation to the ice skater) on Marshyhope Creek on Monday 1/14/19, when he caught this huge 46 pound grass carp (Ctenopharyngodon idella) on a doughball and corn combination. Maryland does not currently recognize grass carp for state records, but this is an impressive catch!
Grass Carp are an invasive species and we encourage anglers to kill them when captured. They compete with native species for food; degrade water quality, and interfere with native fish reproduction. They are illegal to import or release into Maryland waters. For more info, see our fact sheet.
