Potomac Walleye

Type: Nontidal
Region: Western
Location: Upper Potomac River

Snow, rain and wind define the annual turmoil as winter tries to transition into spring. Some folks can't wait for the nice weather of spring to start fishing though...and some never stop. We are blessed in Maryland with lots of options and it's frequently hard to decide what to do. Yellow perch are moving up rivers, pickerel are biting in the reservoirs, mill ponds and tidal waters, blue cats are always eating, and trout fishing opportunities are ramping up. Hatchery crews have been hard at work stocking preseason trout and wild trout are becoming more active too.

I reside not far from the upper Potomac River and its hard to pass up the excellent late winter walleye fishing. Last weekend I was joined by Matt Sell and his son Lucas. We had a great time catching and releasing walleye on jigs and crankbaits. In spite of his young age, Lucas is one enthusiastic, hardcore angler! Fishing is a great way to spend time with family and friends.
