I caught this Musky yesterday, March 31, 2019 on the upper Potomac near Taylors Landing.
I changed plans at the last minute from the Lower Potomac or Susquehanna River due to the incoming cold front and high winds predicted. Instead we decided to stay local and go after the walleye which have been pretty cooperative lately. We got on the water around 8AM and had steady but not fast action from decent walleye on jigs and jerk baits. Towards 11AM the wind rose to a steady 15+ mph (my guess) and the cold air came in and things slowed down.
I had saved my trophy spot for last and carefully approached and tied off to the bank to avoid spooking anything in the pool. My first cast never touched the bottom. I felt weight and called out to my buddy this is a BIG one once it became clear I had more than a snag. I had walleye on my mind so when I saw the fish flash the first couple of times I was seeing a 10+ walleye. But then when the fish came into view it was clearly a big musky.
I didnt realize just how big until we got her in the boat. My friend netted her on the first attempt with a bass-sized net. The jig, which was only on 8lb Gamma, was right in the corner of the mouth which is the only reason the line held up. We took a few quick pictures then let her go and she swam away unharmed.
Totals for the day; 9 walleye, 1 carp and the musky.
