Unusual Trout Coloration

Type: Nontidal
Region: Southern
Location: Upper Patuxent River

I caught this tiger trout on a wooly bugger in the Upper Patuxent River on March 16. Does Maryland DNR stock this hybrid?

DNR Response: No, the department doesn't currently stock tiger trout, and this is not a true tiger trout. It appears to be a brown trout (Salmo trutta) with some unusual coloration and markings. True tiger trout are artificial hybrids of the brown trout (Salmo trutta) and the brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis), which were mainly stocked in West Virginia and some of the upper midwest states such as Wisconsin. According to the USGS, there are no recent documented observations of tiger trout in Maryland (https://nas.er.usgs.gov/queries/factsheet.aspx?SpeciesID=933).
