Type: Nontidal
Region: Southern
Location: Idylwild WMA, St Marys Lake, Mattawoman
On Saturday (4/6/19) I fished Idylwild WMA with my grandson Isaac. Catching five bass, five crappie and two pickerel. All fish were caught on a crappie jig 18 below a bobber all except the biggest crappie, it was caught on a swim bait.
I fished St Marys Lake with my son-in-law Dale on Sunday (4/7/19). We caught a total of 10 bass and 12 pickerel. Catching them on swim bait (1/4 oz jig with a Pearl color 4 paddle tail)
Today I tried my hand at Shad on the Mattawoman at the 225 bridge. I was only able to catch one dinky alewife on a gold colored spoon. I spoke with three other fishermen. They hadnt caught many fish either. Maybe 11 total for the first two guys and the third gentlemen said he had caught a bunch up river. I went to the Mattawoman because a friend had caught 12 fish there on Saturday and said a lot were short striking so he missed a bunch of fish too. At any rate, thinking the fishing has either turned off due to the spawn (one guy said the females had spawned out) or because I hit as the tide was going out.
