Blue Catfish?

Type: Tidal
Region: Southern
Location: Nans Cove

I took my kayak over to Nans Cove this evening wondering if anything was biting. I got an answer when I caught two of these guys. While Ive never caught a blue catfish before Im pretty sure I did today by the looks of the squarish anal fin. If Im incorrect let me know.

DNR Answer: Thank you for the report and the question. Based on the photo, we think you are correct. This appears to be a blue catfish with a "squared" or straight anal fin. Also note that blue catfish have 30-35 fin rays in the the straight anal fin (dnr.maryland.gov/fisheries/Pages/catfish.aspx). We encourage all anglers to remove blue catfish from the water and not return them if they are caught.
