Snakehead Surprise

Type: Nontidal
Region: Southern
Location: St. Mary's Lake

I took two hours to do some wade fishing at St Marys Lake this afternoon (4/24/19). I caught one largemouth bass and a pickerel. The bass was caught on a 1/4 jig with a soft plastic paddle tail. I caught the pickerel on a rattle trap.

Wrapping it up, I was headed back towards the dam and decided to take a few casts into the discharge pond at the base of the dam. The pond receives water from St Marys Lake then heads down river to the college and into the Potomac River before it dumps into the Chesapeake Bay. The water was flowing rather heavy, seeing as the lake was somewhat high from recent rains.

I took a cast or two and caught another bass, on a rattle trap, then to my surprise on the next cast I caught this snakehead. Gees, they are super dangerously close to the lake, ugh!
