I was heading out to do some bass fishing at a local pond yesterday and I met up with a fishing buddy in Huntingtown at two in the afternoon. Getting to the pond some fifteen minutes later, we pull up next to one of three farm ponds on the property. My fishing partner sat on the upside down Jon boat to ready his tackle. Grabbing my rod, and unable to wait, I make my first cast of this spring day among the nearby lily pads. I hook my first fish of the day. A bass a little over one pound.
Our target fish today is the largemouth bass. We launched the small Jon boat, and with the trolling motor humming it pushes us along the the bank line which stretches out before us, sprinkled with immature lily pads.
My fishing partner is casting a small white spinner bait, I choose to toss a green/white wacky worm. It isnt long before we have our second of over twenty bass to the boat. We catch and release all of the bass. Some small fish are caught too, a good sign of the previous years spawn was successful.
As the hour passed we decided to target crappie, casting a small beetle spin with a white twister tail under over hanging trees and lay downs. We catch thirty plus fish, and kept twenty five fish between the two of us. I gave my share to the properties owner.
It was a very nice day for some spring time fishing.
