I emailed in a pic of a nice smallmouth I caught on 5/19. It is about 14 or 15 inches. It weighed one pound. Did plenty of jumping as that species is known for. Always quite a task to keep them under the surface. Unfortunately it ended up dying after having trouble removing the hook. It was fairly deep in its throat and I made sure to keep putting it back in the water every 15 seconds or so but I suppose the shock and trauma of working on it was too much. I spent the better part of 10 minutes or so trying to keep it from dying moving it back and forth in the water putting water through its gills, but had no success. I was very disheartened by it since I havent killed a fish that I have caught in years. I will go fishing again tonight and see if I have any luck. Hopefully something more to report later. Still in search of a citation fish in that creek.
Lastly it would be nice if the fishermen could be more specific about where they caught the fish. I have seen plenty of nice reports and fish shown but then never know specifically where they caught it. Almost like we are keeping secrets :)The report just says a pond or farm pond, be nice if our reports included road names if nothing else. I live in Harford County and cant find a good pond to save my life. Did some research on google and talked to other people I meet in the area but have had limited success. So far I have one or two ponds I know of but its for community members only. If anyone knows of a good farm pond or other type of pond in Harford County that they could point me in the direction of I would love it. I saw a gentleman post just this week with a 5 lb largemouth in Harford County. Id love to find out where this is, just one example of what I mean. It would be awesome if your site had a log in with a profile and we could post our info to contact each other. Just a thought. As always I appreciate what DNR does for us and thank you for your services and Anglers Log.
DNR RESPONSE- Its a nice idea for the fishing community if anglers were more specific in their reports, but as fisherman, we know how hard it is to give away that perfect spot. Also, a majority of ponds are privately owned, if you find a pond youre interested in fishing always find the owner and get their consent before walking onto their property.
