St Marys Lake

Type: Nontidal
Region: Southern
Location: St. Mary's Lake

I headed over to St Marys Lake after the morning thunderstorms (great, more rain, go figure ??). I started out casting a 1/4oz jig with a paddle tail which caught two bass and a small pickerel.

Then I switched to a top water frog after speaking with another fisherman. He said he had caught four bass on a buzz-bait. My son-in-law, Dale, had just caught a bass on a weightless fluke, casting it into lily pads. I caught an additional eight bass and one pickerel while Dale caught four more bass. I was casting the frog under tree limbs hanging over the water, being sure to make contact with the bank, then walked the frog back to the kayak. Most strikes occurred when the frog first made contact with the water. The bass were on the smaller size and typical of the bass taken at the lake.
