I have had the pleasure of spending a lot of time this spring with a good friend of mine that most Garrett County natives know by the name of Sav. Ryan Savage is a local outdoor enthusiast that is currently making a push to provide more access and more outdoor opportunities for all people with disabilities. We started our journey on April 18 th on the opening day of turkey season. Ryan, myself, and some other mutual friends were on a mission to get Ryan his first turkey.. Not only did Ryan get his first turkey, he was able to tag out! So now when one cant hunt, you must go fishing. After a recent meeting Ryan had with local and state government officials as well as Maryland DNR personnel, a list of ideas were put together in order to provide more opportunities. One of these ideas was a new access area on the Catch and Return section of the Youghiogheny River at Sang Run. Ryan and I met one afternoon to give this area a, so called, test run to see how things would work out. Things working out very well as Ryan caught a rainbow trout on the second cast, and was then able to land four more river chubs during the outing. The trip was a great success with fish being caught, and good discussion on future plans for the site. I think we both ended up with some nice sun burns as well! Be on the lookout for future post as Ryan has just put his pontoon boat on Deep Creek Lake!
