Perch Fishing

Type: Tidal
Region: Southern
Location: Piney Point

So, I guess I went white perch fishing yesterday.

I took a moment to take a few cast at the community pier prior to heading over for some evening fishing at Piney Point on St Marys creek and the Potomac River. I started out targeting striped bass but came up short and conceded to the white perch bite.

While I was casting along and under the pier I only caught perch. It really didnt matter if I used a 3/8 oz jig dressed in a four inch plastic or a small beetle spin, perch. I then headed over to Piney Point, launching my kayak at the public pier. I had first tried to troll a few baits around the bridge then I crossed the creek to the far side. Nada.

Rethinking it I trolled back to the islands side of the creek. Making my way up along the shoreline of St George Island casting over top of the grass beds. And working a beetle spin through the grass. More perch.

As the sun started to set I continue to head back towards the docks fishing around the bridge pilings. Perch. At any rate it was a great, but very hot, evening of perch fishing
