Type: Tidal
Region: Eastern
Location: Wicomico Creek
I started fishing the Wicomico Creek Saturday 6/29/19 as the tide was still going out. My target was northern snakehead. I was throwing a black/pumpkin z man chatter bait and caught a 3 lb largemouth about 5:30 am, which I released. Within 15 minutes another fish attacked my bait. I could tell it was big even as it was swimming towards me, however, when it turned away from the bank and started peeling drag in knew it was huge. After several minutes of fighting I landed my first northern snakehead. The biggest fish I have ever landed. The fish was 34.5 inches in length and weighed 11.8 pounds. I registered my catch and was awarded a FishMaryland Invasive Species citation from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. And yes northern snakehead are delicious!
