Summertime Fishing Tips

Type: Nontidal
Region: Western
Location: Cunningham Falls Lake

We have done well lately with bluegills, redear sunfish and largemouth bass as the waters remain in the mid to low 80 degree mark This pattern should remain stable throughout the month of August.. Early and late in the day are prime times for big bluegills and late-spawning red ears (shellcrackers) in a variety of small public and private venues. We use hair jigs 1/32 and 1/64th oz and small live earthworms fished with or without a bobber in cool, shaded areas. Cunningham Falls Lake and numerous community lakes have red ears and some of these fish are 11 inches or better. Where permitted, kayaking can get you onto more fish. If you are keeping fish then ice them down immediately after capture. If you are releasing fish then don't keep them out of the water more than a minute to get those nice photos. Good Luck!
