My friend Andy called to ask if Id like to do some bull red fish fishing today. Of course I said yes!
We decided to troll north from the Patuxent River and keep an eye out for birds working or water surface action. That never occurred, but we ended up catching 13 mackerel, 11 undersized rockfish and one nice bluefish. (All fish released unharmed) . We caught the majority of the mackerel on the east side of the gas plant, near the boundary buoys by trolling small spoons on #1 planers. We had times when all four of our rods saw action!
We then headed over to try some jigging for rockfish at the base Thomas Johnson bridge. Not finding fish there we then decided to wrap things up, but not before trolling two rods back to Solomons Island. We ended up catching additional mackerel on the trip in!
Isaac, my grandson, joined us on boat too. He was reeling in the majority of the fish.
