Back-to-Back Big Reds

Type: Chesapeake
Region: Central
Location: Middle and Upper Lower Bay, Point No Point to Sharps Island

I went out on a walk-on guide trip with "Walleye Pete" Dahlberg and 4 other anglers. We ran about 80 miles and found biting fish in several locations. We caught a bunch of schoolie stripers (30+ on my rod) ending up with 7 keepers plus a gaggle of bluefish, a few nice Spanish mackerel including one huge one, and a flounder.

Pete found some birds working around mid-afternoon and ran over to what was a huge gaggle of schoolie stripers and bluefish breaking water on a mass of baitfish. He said, "great setup for big reds foraging underneath". Two minutes later a 47" redfish took my jig on a light baitcaster - my first redfish plus my biggest fish. What a thrill on very light tackle! Then we caught a 46" and a 48" and had another break off. The fish were still breaking water when it was time to go in. Great day on the Bay!
