Two of my friends and I went to the Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge on Sunday. We meet at Anglers then headed over to target snakehead. Our first stop was at the Egypt Rd soft launch, but to our disappointment the gate was closed, due to duck hunting season.
Then we headed over to the boat launch off of 335. Paddling up past Buttons Creek then past Woods Island in search of fish and calmer water. The wind was fairly substantial with over cast skies and there was a chill in the air. I felt as if luck was against us. But, after speaking with another kayak fisherman and learning that he had caught one fish, losing three on minnows, my hope was rekindled.
We found bait fish on the leeward banks, with largemouth bass and snakehead feeding. We each caught a snakehead and a few other fish too. I did catch the one and only white perch of the day on a Ned Rig, weird but he was a nice fish at 12 5/8.
