Piney Run 6/2/2011: Conditions were very choppy from about 3 PM until 6 PM. Once it calmed down around 7, I hit this guy. I had seen this same fish I believe, patrolling the Martz Rd. Cove, in a school, however it seems like he never wanted to take bait, the smaller fish in the school are the ones that always seemed to be feeding. Once or twice I caught a sight of a largemouth this size in previous days of shore fishing, which I have to believe is the same one, torpedoing into the shallows and inhaling young bluegill sunfish. It was my goal to nab this fish. After a few casts of my new lure (Bass Pro Shops XPS Z9R Rainbow Trout Imitation Swimbait 7 1 3/4oz), he was on. Gave a pretty hefty fight, which led my to my assumption that it was a striper, but when I got him within net distance we realized that it was just a bass with a mouth like the grand canyon! I hope to see more fish like this pulled out of piney run, and I hope more and more people begin to realize that piney is very underrated, and actually has a plethora of monsters to be hooked.
