Tim's Personal Best - 36" Carp

Type: Tidal
Region: Central
Location: Patapsco River

Sunday, October 20, 2019 was a rainy day in Baltimore. That morning, I contacted Tommy Robinson, a well-known local carp aficionado, to ask him about carp fishing. My goal was to catch a big carp. Tommy soon invited me to join him at one of his best carp fishing spots somewhere on the tidal Patapsco River. Not surprisingly, he and I were the only anglers on the riverbank. Maybe the rain kept other carp anglers away. However, it didn't take long for the carp to start biting and within a couple hours we each caught and released a few big carp. The first one I caught was a little over 28 inches long, but Tommy said we would probably get a bigger one. The second carp I caught was 36 inches long, my personal best. The big, gold-colored fish fought hard on the long carp rods before I steered its head into the net. The huge fish measured 36 inches long and weighed almost 23 lbs. We used a corn mixture for bait. What a thrill to catch (and release) such a special fish on a rainy fall day in Baltimore.

Tim received a FishMaryland certificate for this catch and is on his way to an Expert Angler Award milestone. One more trophy-sized species to go. Congratulations!
