I went out to western Maryland with my 2 best friends from college on the weekend of October 12/13 to fish Deep Creek Lake. We had great weather, and the leaves were in the process of changing with the onset of cooler temps. What a great time to be on the lake. Im normally a saltwater angler, and this was my first time fishing at Deep Creek. On Saturday, October 12th I hooked up with a beautiful northern pike while trolling above the Glendale Bridge. I was using an orange/black Mepps Syclops 3 spoon as we trolled past grass beds on the western side of the lake (south of Bills Outdoor Center). I had just cast the lure out and I had not even flipped the bail on the reel when he nailed the lure and started taking line. After a healthy fight, and the fish completely leaping out of the water, I was able to boat him for measurements and a quick picture before safely releasing him to be caught another day. This beautiful fish weighed in at 8.4 lbs. and 38 inches. I will definitely be back to Deep Creek for more fishing adventures!
