My name is Peter Egan Jr. I am an avid fisherman from Louisiana who had a most interesting fishing experience while vacationing in Maryland in mid-April. I usually fish in a small river called the Tchefuncte. The Tchefuncte River is a hotbed for catfish and bass, although in all my years of fishing it, I've never before experienced, seen or even heard of anything like what happened while I was visiting your fine state.
While visiting a friend from Baltimore, I accompanied a group of people on a fishing trip in a private pond in Wicomico Country. While I did not fish (I was there mainly to take photographs), I was lucky enough to witness a fairly anomalous catch. One of my friends named Jamie Taylor caught a catfish on a hard topwater diving minnow while fishing for bass.
The lure did not have any scent on it, and the catfish must have initiated the strike based only on sight and sound - not scent.
While the fish itself was fairly small and was ultimately released alive back into the pond, I've never before heard of a catfish being caught on artificial lures that were smell enhanced, so I thought I'd write and share my experience with the people of Maryland.
All-in-all, I had a wonderful time while visiting Maryland, and hope to return in the not-too-distant future, as your fine state has much to offer including but not limited to some excellent fishing!
